About sleepfitness

What is sleepfitness?

Sleepfitness is a 6-week self-guided online insomnia program rooted in the evidenced based approach known as Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia (CBTi). This approach has been shown to be highly effective in addressing insomnia. The online format and concept of sleepfitness was developed by leading sleep expert, Dr. Allison Siebern, PhD, CBSM.

Dr. Siebern receives many requests from individuals around the globe asking to receive CBTi treatment. Many of these individuals lack access to CBTi due to many factors. Based on this Dr. Siebern created sleepfitness with the user in mind bringing her experience as a healthcare provider certified in behavioral sleep medicine. With its efficient and simple design sleepfitness makes CBTi easily accessible and straightforward to implement.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia (CBTi)?

CBTi is a non-medication evidenced based treatment for insomnia and involves making behavioral changes and actions to sleep habits, sleep scheduling, and thoughts about sleep. CBTi is an active process where you implement the strategies in a combination that applies to your sleep. The behavioral strategies work in alignment with your sleep system to strengthen your propensity to sleep to help improve the time that it takes for you to get to sleep and with maintaining sleep. It also involves cognitive strategies to help replace thoughts that may worsen sleep and to quiet the active mind at night.

Insomnia is the most common sleep issue and currently treatment includes either sleep medication which is FDA approved for short-term use and CBTi which has been shown to be effective both short-term and is also a longer-term solution as it addresses the factors perpetuating the sleep disruption. The American College of Physicians has deemed CBTi to be a first-line treatment for insomnia for this reason.

What is the cost of the program?

Please contact your HSA/FSA vendor as with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from your healthcare provider this may fall under medical education and be covered.

Do you offer a refund?

No, given the immediate nature of access to sleepfitness you cannot cancel your purchase or receive a full or partial refund after you register and pay for the full access. The 7-day free trial version is a good option to take advantage of to determine whether you wish to purchase the sleepfitness program.

How do I use the sleepfitness program?

The program is structured with a Learning section and a Logging section. Under the Learning section is a folder for each of the 6 weeks. Each week contains less than an hour of short videos with corresponding downloadable pdf files. These short videos breakdown what you will be implementing for the following week. Each week will build upon the next, so it is recommended that you go through the program in sequential order. Once you have scrolled through the videos the next week will unlock and become available for full access users.

Under the Logging section there is an online sleep log for you to track your sleep. The data from the sleep log will be displayed on a graph so you can track and view your sleep by day or by week which gives you the ability to review the data in order to make changes to your sleep schedule.

Can I do this program while I am on sleep medication?

It is important that you discuss this with your prescribing provider as CBTi is a process and abruptly stopping or making changes to your sleep medication without discussing with your prescribing provider is not recommended. There is research that shows that CBTi can be helpful in improving sleep even when on a sleep medication and may also be helpful with preparing your sleep system to taper sleep medication use. Again, you should talk with your prescribing provider about completing this self-guided CBTi program while taking sleep medication. You are able to download and printout your sleep log data and graph to take to your provider to discuss.

Why do I have access for 1-year when it is a 6-week program?

It will take you the full 6 weeks to complete the CBTi strategies that you will be implementing but you may need longer to continue implementing these strategies. This gives you additional time to use the Logging section in tracking your sleep. Once you are done with the program you may want to go back and review certain sections. For example, if you had a setback in your sleep you may want to review what was helpful or go back to logging your sleep to see what you may need to implement, hence the 1-year access.

Who is appropriate for this program?

This program is suitable for adults 18 years of age or older that have difficulties getting to sleep and/or staying asleep. This program involves a commitment of approximately 1 hour a week to review the short videos to understand the CBTi sleep strategies. The program involves making behavioral changes and is not a passive approach unless you complete it for educational and/or entertainment purposes only. Please speak with your healthcare provider to ensure that this program would be a suitable approach for you in improving your sleep.

Is there an app that goes with the program?

No, there is not an app available for download to your phone or tablet. However, the website login will work on your phone and tablet as well as your computer and you should be able to sign in from any device.

Can I use my sleep tracking device data to input into the sleep log on sleepfitness?

For the purposes of making behavioral changes to your sleep, you should use the sleep logging method that is recommended in this program as it is based on your perception of how you slept, but you could certainly compare your sleep log data with your sleep tracking device to see how the information matches up. It is advisable that you track your sleep via the sleep log on sleepfitness instead of relying on your sleep tracking device because often times devices that track sleep may over or underestimate sleep. It is important to keep in mind that the current standards of CBTi are based on the individual personally logging their sleep on the sleep log.
